Do You Feel Like No One Understands You?

Do you ever feel like no one understands you? Like they don’t get why you are the way you are, why you feel the way you feel, or why you do the things you do? Well, you’re right, they don’t.

Humans are complex. There is so much that contributes to who we are.

No one can fully understand you.

And that can lead to shame. Frustration. Confusion. It can lead to asking, “why am I like this?”

We can most definitely look inside and try to figure things out. We might come up with some really good connections for why we are the way we are. We might be introspective enough to change some of our unhealthy thinking and behaviors.

But who we are today is made up of our entire life. All the experiences we’ve had, cultural influences, our biology, our family, our sin, and a whole bunch of other things.

We are complex. And no one is going to fully understand that.

No one, except Jesus.

He knows our every thought. Every single thought we’ve ever had.

He knows what underlies our behaviors and what is even in our subconscious. He knows the parts of us that we aren’t even aware of. He knows what makes us tick.

He gets us.

From our toes to the tips of our head. From the outside all the way in. Our physical bodies, to our souls, to our spirit.

He knows it all. Him alone.

And although it is incredibly frustrating to feel misunderstood by other people, they are never going to be the ones who will help us feel known or understood.

They didn’t see us before time. They didn’t breathe life into us. They didn’t knit us into our mother’s womb. They didn’t go before us. They didn’t create a plan for our life.

They don’t understand us perfectly because we weren’t created for them. We were created for God, by God.

That’s what makes God’s love so incredible and so different from human love.

He knows everything, and I mean everything, about us. The darkest parts of us. The worst thoughts we’ve ever had. Our worst actions. The things we would never tell somebody else.

And still, He loves us.

I know it’s frustrating to feel misunderstood, but remember friend...

You are fully understood, fully known, and yet still chosen and adored by the Creator and King.
