If we are honest, sometimes we don’t want to hear what God has to say.
I know that’s a hard thing to admit, but it’s true.
We know God is calling us to love that person who makes us so annoyed.
We know He is calling us to be more generous but we want to hang on to what we have for security.
We know He wants us to surrender fear and control and trust Him.
We know He is calling us to taking the leap of faith but it would mean letting go of the comfort of this life.
And frankly, sometimes we don’t want to hear it.
So we avoid talking to God about those things, or avoid Him all together.
It doesn’t end well.
I have been here before, I’ve ignored God’s gentle tugs and whispers.
And no, it didn’t end well.
Because God always guides us to what is right.
He doesn’t necessarily guide us to what is most fun, or easiest, or what will be most comfortable.
He guides us to what is right.
(He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Psalm 25: 9)
And so if we aren’t following His lead, if we aren’t going to what’s right... where are we headed?
Of course, God isn’t a puppet master, and gives us free will to choose.
But friend, life is so much better when we choose to listen to Him.
Even if it’s hard to believe, it’s true.
Even if you have to let go of something you really love, or something you really want.. it’s still true.
Because He alone is where we find abundant life.
“Show me your ways, O Lord,
Teach me your paths,
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
For you are God my Savior,
And my hope is in you all day long.”
Psalm 25:4-5
