There is a line in my favorite Christmas song, “O holy Night”, that says, “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.”
I can’t help but feel like the word “weary” is a good word to describe our world.
So many of us feel so unsettled, broken and alone.
In fact, “weary” is an understatement.
There was a time when the weary world was waiting for their messiah to come...
but no one would have guessed he’d come in the form of a baby.
Jesus surprised them.
He came and dwelled among them.
He felt what they felt. He cried with them.
God incarnated to be with His people.
A thrill of hope!
Hope is an understatement.
It’s not just having hope that something great could happen in our life. It’s knowing something great already DID happen and that He will come again.
We don’t have to wait for our Messiah like they did. You and I already have Him.
If you are feeling weary, remember that Jesus can surprise us. He can show up in ways we wouldn’t have guessed.
He did it then and still does it today- He still meets us in a way only He can.
He is with each of us right now. He wants us to understand the story of His life so that we really can live in the hope-filled reality that we have, and know what’s to come.
We celebrate this season because the King came in human form so that He could sacrifice Himself for us.
So that we could have direct access to Him.
So that we could be with Him for eternity.
So that even when our hearts feel heavy, we can have hope as we remember who He is.
And look forward to the day when our once weary world only rejoices with Him.
