“Even the wind and waves obey Him.”
This verse has always stuck out to me because it’s so powerful.
Jesus and disciples are on a boat when a huge storm hits and threatens their life.
Naturally, the disciples are scared and run to Jesus, who is sleeping, and cry out for help.
Jesus asks them why they are so afraid, then proceeds to rebuke the storm to the point that everything was calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “what kind of man is this? Even the winds and waves obey him!” Matthew 8:27
This might not feel very relevant to your life, but it probably is.
So many of us are walking through a storm right now.
We are being hit with waves of grief and fear.
We feel like we are going to drown. We don’t know how we can make it.
This story applies to us now, too.
Jesus knows what it’s like to be in the storm. Because He IS in the storm with us. On the same boat.
So we can still run to Him for help like the disciples did.
And when we do... He will calm our storm.
It might not be in a second, it might not be instantaneous. But He will do it.
Jesus stands on top of the storm. He is never overtaken by it.
Why? Because even the wind and waves obey Him.
They obey Him.
His word goes. And His word is true in your life.
But even now, as the waves rock the boat, reach out for His hand to keep you steady.
As the storm pours down and you wait for it to calm, listen for His whispers reminding you He’s right there in it with you.
He is in your boat, and He will never ever leave you alone.
