Our Tired Hearts Need Jesus, Even When We Don’t Feel Him.

This is a different kind of tired.

It’s not a “I didn’t sleep much and I need more sleep” kind of tired.

It’s not a “I did way too much today and my body needs to rest” kind of tired.

It’s an emotional exhaustion that is taking its toll on many of us.

With this kind of tired comes a sense of hopelessness, helplessness or maybe even a sense of doom.

Because we don’t know when it will go away, and when we will feel more “normal”.

It’s exhausting.

It aches.

I’ve been searching for comfort during this time, for myself and others. I have been in the Word looking for some sort of answer.

I have read this verse a million times, but today it hit differently:

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

I was looking for a 3-step solution to feel better, but instead, I found there is one solution and it’s a man.

Jesus.

He tells us He will give our tired, hurting souls rest.

How?

By going to Him.

That’s it. That’s what it takes. Seems pretty simple right?

Ironically, it’s time like these when many people find connecting with God to feel so difficult. And when we don’t “feel” God, we tend to stop going to Him- because what’s the point?

I know you may not feel Him right now. I know you may feel like He is distant, or ignoring you. You might feel angry and resentful towards Him, too.

I get it. I know what it’s like to feel like God isn’t there.

But friend, that’s impossible.

I don’t know why we can’t hear or feel Him at times, but I do know it’s not because He moved. He doesn’t move away from His children.

It makes me wonder if the way we can connect with God is in the obedience of continually going to Him even when we DON’T feel Him.

I think that builds our faith.

I think going to him with our weary heart over and over again is actually the process that helps us transform.

Because it shows that our faith isn’t based on what we are feeling. It’s based on His Word, no matter what we feel.

Keep going to Him. Even if your heart is in shambles.

You can go to Him exhausted, with nothing much to give.

It’s in the going to Him you’ll be changed.

You WILL feel Him again, friend.

It’s in the going to Him that He will take your burdens and give you true rest.

That doesn’t mean you will feel perfectly happy.

It means you will be held.

You will know you aren’t alone.

Listen, and you might just hear Him whispering, “come to me, child.”
