To the Person Losing Sleep at Night: God Sits Beside You

You lay in bed at night as the anxious thoughts fill your mind.

The “what if’s” and the scary visuals pop into your head. And they feel impossible to turn it off.

You and toss and turn.

It’s so hard to get comfortable.

Tears may stream down your face as you wonder how long it will feel like this.

You are absolutely exhausted, but your brain won’t stop spinning.

So you lay there, praying to fall asleep.

Finally, you do.

Every night, you always do.

It’s SO hard, friend. Worry is a terrible companion to sleep.

Yet, it’s in the darkness of the night that you cry out to God. And even if He doesn’t snap His fingers and take the fear away, He sits with you.

Right there. His presence literally right there with you as you lay.

So friend, breathe.

The scary thoughts may come, but they don’t have to stay.

They are not there forever.

Imagine taking all of those thoughts and placing them in the hands of Jesus.

He will carry those for you.

He is closer to you than you are to yourself. So much closer than you even know.

He will see you through tonight, and every night.

Even if your thoughts are scary, He is holding you. He is your refuge.

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety

Psalm 4:8
